Kruja is famous for its castle which in the 15th century was a battle field where the national hero of Albania – Skanderbeg – successfully resisted several battles against the Ottoman army. Berat is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in Albania. The town of thousands windows is located in a pictresque region at the foot of Mount Tomorr (2416 m) in the valley of the Osum river. The scenic landscapes can be viewed from the ancient walls of the castle which is a home of local people whose houses are neghbouring Bizantine churches and mosques built during the Ottoman era.
